Simple, Easy Way to Enjoy Vietnamese Coffee at Home

What you will need:

Good quality ground Robusta Beans (coffee grinder if using whole beans)

Vietnamese Coffee Phin Filter

Sweetened Condensed Milk

Step One: Robusta Beans

Purchase good quality robusta beans, preferably ground.  If you purchase whole beans, you'll need a coffee grinder. These are from Vietnam but a simple google search will show you where to purchase robusta coffee beans near you.

Step Two: Vietnamese Coffee Phin Filter

Make sure you have a Vietnamese Coffee Phin Filter like the ones below. Both are available for purchase from IDARES CENTRAL.

Step Three: Method

Unscrew the Phin filter plate from the cup chamber and add 2-3 tablespoons of ground robusta beans.

Step Four: Method

Screw the Phin filter plate back on (not too tight otherwise it's hard to remove) and place on top of a cup or glass. Then add a small amount of boiling water to let the coffee expand.

Wait 30 seconds and then fill the cup chamber to about 3/4 full of boiling water. Place the lid on and wait for the coffee to brew. This should take a few minutes as the coffee slowly drips into the cup below.

Once the coffee has finished brewing it should look like this.

Step Five: Sweetened Condensed Milk

Then add sweetened condensed milk. If you prefer you can add it first in Step Four into your cup/glass before you put the coffee chamber on top. We prefer to add it in after, but it's up to you.

If you want an Iced Vietnamese Coffee, the only difference is ice! We recommend adding ice first in Step Four into an empty cup or glass, before you put the coffee chamber on top. Once your coffee has brewed and you've added your condensed milk either before or after brewing, add additional ice to your liking.

Step Six: Stir and Enjoy

Stir and enjoy hot or cold!
